Kiln Theatre yesterday announced that Indhu Rubasingham will step down as Artistic Director of the company, leaving early 2024, having led the company for over a decade.
Indhu took up her role at Kiln Theatre (then Tricycle Theatre) in 2012. In her 11 years as Artistic Director, Brent residents have benefitted from her expert and admired direction of countless award-winning productions.
One production many residents are likely to remember was the stage adaptation of Brent-born Zadie Smith’s infamous novel White Teeth, a book firmly rooted in the local community, followed by a collaboration on Smith’s The Wife of Willesden, which enjoyed two sell-out runs.
Indhu Rubasingham said, “It has been an immense honour to be Artistic Director of Kiln Theatre.
“It has given me the privilege and opportunity to work with many brilliant people, who have contributed to the successes of Kiln; a theatre with a mission that is heartfelt and held by the whole team.”
Indhu’s many achievements included transforming the theatre with a £9m investment to improve the facilities and future proof the space for the next generation of theatremakers, all whilst preserving the glories of the original building.
Kiln Theatre has also played its part in daily life by becoming a warm space to welcome residents during the cost-of-living crisis.
