A residential children’s care home in the borough has the go ahead after Brent’s Cabinet approved the project business case yesterday (22 May).
Following the successful application for capital funding from the Department for Education (DfE) Children’s Home Capital Programme, Brent Council was awarded a budget of £1.1m for the development of a residential children’s care home subject to 50% match funding from the Local Authority.
The council is looking to purchase an existing 5/6 bedroom residential property within the borough which will be re-modelled to provide a home for up to four children, with accommodation for staff and staff facilities/office.
The home will support young people with social, emotional and behavioural needs, who require support to remain in the community, and provide access to local services. The home will help young people transition towards independence whilst being close to their family and friend networks. The home will provide vital support in employment, education, and training outcomes for young people, reduce the number of young people living outside of the Borough and reduce the average cost of placements.
