Meet the team

Clare Henshaw BSc (Hons), MA

Autism Team Leader

Clare initially joined SOS for Autism in December 2001 and was integral to establishing the service within Brent and developing BOAT. Clare has an MA in autism and trained as a speech and language therapist specialising in supporting children and young people on the autism spectrum.

She has worked in a range of educational and health settings both within the UK and abroad including America, Beirut and India. Clare is the primary point of contact for support in mainstream primary schools. She also leads the team.

 

                                                                                           

Sarah Morrissey B.Ed. (Hons), PGCert, M.Ed. Education in Autism                                                       

Autism Outreach Teacher

Sara joined the team in January 2009. She trained as a teacher and had been working in children’s centres and primary schools across Brent for 13 years. She has specialised in early years and is the primary point of contact for children in mainstream early years and Key Stage One settings. 

  

 Rupal Dattani BSc (Hons) Psychology                                                               

Autism Support Worker

Rupal joined the team in April 2015 and works with primary-aged children. She previously worked in a special needs school as an assistant speech and language therapist. She has worked with charities in our neighbouring boroughs running SEN holiday play schemes, drama groups and facilitating parenting and teenage groups.

 

Bonnie Burkell B.Ed, NASENCO, SLE (Specialist Leader in Education)                                      

Autism Outreach Teacher
 
Bonnie joined the team in September 2015 working two and a half days a week. She has taught in primary schools, special schools and children centres across Brent for the last 12 years. She is also an accredited advanced practitioner for the Gina    Davies’ Attention Autism programme. Bonnie works and supports in Early Years settings.  

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   

  

Zoe Cowan BA and MA Special and Inclusive Education

Autism Support Worker

Zoe joined the BOAT team in April 2021 and mainly works in primary settings. She has been a Learning Support Assistant (LSA) in a mainstream school in Barnet for over ten years, working predominantly with children on the autism spectrum presenting challenging behaviours.

Zoë has a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education at the University of East London and a Master’s Degree in Special and Inclusive Education at University College London.
