Project Search – Supported internship programme
Things to do
Project Search is a year-long supported internship programme for young people between the ages of 16-25 with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
The Brent programme, which was launched in September 2016, is co-ordinated by the College of North West London (CNWL), in partnership with the council, Charing Cross Hospital Imperial College NHS Trust, West London Alliance, Kaleidoscope Sabre, Sodexo and Action on Disability.
The internships are at Charing Cross Hospital and are offered to students who have a recognised learning difficulty or disability, an education health and care (EHC) plan or learning difficulty assessment (LDA) and who meet the college’s criteria for preparation to employment. The placements are designed to help them develop a range of skills and qualities desired by employers, prior to finding full-time, paid employment. The students are also offered full training and support from the CNWL and a job coach throughout the year.
The latest group of twelve students finished their internships at Charing Cross in June 2018. Six have already started full-time employment and the rest will be supported to find work over the summer. Eleven of the 12 students who completed the inaugural programme in 2017 are also in work.
