Transfer of statements of SEN and LDAs to education, health and care (EHC) plans

If you already have a statement of special educational needs or a learning disability assessment (LDA)

Children and young people with statements of special educational needs and young people who receive support as a result of a learning disability assessment (LDA) will be gradually transferred over to an education, health and care (EHC) plan.

The transfer process

Since September 2014, Brent has begun transferring existing statements of SEN to education, health and care (EHC) plans. This process, which will be phased, must be completed within three and a half years by April 2018.

Your child’s school or college will start the process off by inviting you to attend a transfer review meeting. This will replace the annual review of your child’s statement in the academic year that they would have transferred to an EHC plan.

Please have a look at our transition plan which will tell you when we expect your child's statement or LDA to be transferred to an EHC plan.

If you have questions or queries about the transfer process please contact our Special Educational Needs Assessment Service (SENAS) on 020 8937 3229 or email sen.assessments@brent.gov.uk
