Generations of Learning Project
20 July to 9 August at The Library at Willesden Green
This display celebrates the Generations of Learning project which aimed to record the experiences of Irish and Pakistani immigrant communities to Cricklewood back in the 50s and 60s, and help today’s younger generation understand the realities and challenges faced by immigrant communities then and now.
This was achieved by interviewing elders from the Pakistani and Irish communities to create oral histories and demonstrate the experience of arriving, living, working and raising families in Cricklewood, a thriving area and an industrial powerhouse in the 1950s. This highlighted the economic and cultural contribution these migrants made, showing what they have achieved in the past 60+ years. This includes how they staffed the factories, industries and local services and how their experience is relevant to the lives of young people today.
This display is the result of The Generations of Learning project between Brent Museum and Archives and local charity Ashford Place.
