Summary

Brent Council are currently looking for a Business Administrator Apprentice - Level 3 to work in the Executive and Members Service as an Electoral Services Assistant. Our apprenticeship schemes at Brent are just one of the ways we grow our own talent within the borough. This apprenticeship is a great opportunity for individuals who are starting out on their work life journey at the age of 16 or you may be considering changing a career for a different working life. There is no age limit on an apprenticeship and this role will give you hands-on experience in an Election Services environment within Local Government. You will be part of a great team and assist in the delivery of a quality service within the council.

The role and responsibilities

  • To administer and maintain in an effective and efficient manner a range of administrative procedures and systems to gather information from Council and other sources for the preparation and maintenance of the electoral register
  • To assist in the preparation, compilation and production of the electoral register and in the operation of related administrative procedures including the annual canvass
  • To assist in the administration of elections (Parliamentary, Local, GLA and referenda)
  • Plan and manage a range of administrative tasks and work under pressure to ensure deadlines are met
  • Follow procedures and assimilate complex information
  • Communicate effectively in writing, by telephone and face to face with colleagues, members of the public, elected members and election candidates
  • To treat personal data with an appropriate level of security

Skills and experience

  • English & Maths GCSE’s Grade C or above 
  • Good IT skills including knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook is required
  • Good organisational skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Good time management skills
  • The ability to work accurately and adhere to strict deadlines
  • Keen to learn
  • Good communication skills
  • Good understanding of good customer service
  • You will need to show your interest in local government and the delivery of public services
  • Flexible and positive approach to work. (You may have to work extended hours at busy times, in particular the period leading up to an election, possibly including some weekend work.)

*N.B Apprentices without Level 2 English and Maths will need to achieve this level prior to completion of their Apprenticeship.
