Summary

  • To attend to the physical emotional and social needs of the residents as assessed.
  • To give adequate support, and if necessary, total care to residents ensuring that their dignity and wellbeing is maintained at all times.
  • To provide person cantered care to a high standard.
  • Working with mainly dementia residents

The role and responsibilities 

  1. To assist residents who need help with all aspects of care including washing, dressing, bathing and assistance with using the toilet or continence pads.
  2. To encourage residents to maintain their independence by encouraging them to undertake as many activities of daily living as they are able.
  3. Caring for residents who are temporarily sick for example supporting them to eat and attending to minor dressings when necessary.
  4. To help care for residents who are dying.
  5. To be aware of the physical and emotional needs of residents and share in their social activities.
  6. To serve meals in the dining rooms in an acceptable manner, and assist frail residents to eat.
  7. To maintain confidentiality at all times regarding residents and others. 
  8. To answer call bells promptly and ensure that those residents who are in their rooms for whatever reason are visited regularly and their condition and progress monitored.
  9. To tidy resident rooms and empty commodes.
  10. To take part in a key working system and update care plans as required paying particular attention to any changes observed.
  11. To read and write reports and take part in staff meetings as required.
  12. To attend appropriate training as available and as directed by your line manager.
  13. To assist in weighing residents on a regular basis
  14. To help maintain a safe environment for staff, residents and visitors through awareness of health and safety policies and by reporting immediately to the Officer on duty any accident or incident which may occur, to a resident, visitor or member of staff.
  15. To answer the telephone, take clear messages and ensure that messages are passed to the duty officer promptly and correctly.
  16. To undertake any other duties as required in order keeping the home running smoothly and as delegated by the Officer on duty or Home Manager.

 

Skills and experience
