Summary 

  • To provide a safe environment in a professional manner for the residents and staff by regular maintenance of the fabric and non-specialist equipment in the home.
  • To undertake aspects of gardening two days per week

The role and responsibilities

  • are within the post holder’s experience or competence and/or to monitor repairs by specialist contractors.
  • To maintain and check heating, lighting and water systems.
  • To undertake security duties as and when required.
  • To carry out checks and tests as detailed in the Home’s planned maintenance programme and to keep the Resource Officer informed of progress.
  • To co-operate and maintain good working relationships with all staff.
  • To maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Reporting promptly all complaints, however minor, regarding maintenance or other matters to the Resource Manager.
  • To participate in relevant training programs as required.
  • To develop good relationships with residents and visitors and behave in a responsible and courteous manner at all times, promoting the good name of the Home and the organisation.
  • To comply with the regulations and with respect to Health and Safety at Work; environmental health; fire procedures; etc., and abide by the Company’s Health and Safety Policy.
  • To ensure the correct storage and control of hazardous substances in compliance with COSHH regulations.
  • To report building and building services defects and hazards to the Resource Manager.
  • To attend meetings as required by the Home Manager.
  • To undertake other duties as may be reasonably requested, in order to maintain the smooth running of the home.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Ability to demonstrate at least 2 years’ general maintenance experience.          
  • Versatile and adaptable.          
  • Available to be called into the building when problems arise out of normal working hours.

Desirable

  • To have some experience of working with older people.

Please note: Priority will be given to Brent residents in the first instance. This vacancy may close before the advertised closing date if a sufficient number of suitable applications are received. Early application is therefore recommended
