This privacy notice is businesses who have registered their interest for a Buy Brent business profile. It explains the information we collect about you, how it will be used and your rights in relation to that information.
Why we collect and use your information
You are providing your information to Brent Council. Your information is collected for the purpose of expression of interest for a business profile on the Buy Brent app. Your consent is the lawful basis we rely on for processing your information.
By completing this form, you are expressing your interest for a business profile and account on the Buy Brent app. Buy Brent is a mobile app and website to connect local businesses with a wider customer base. It is an online marketplace where businesses can have a profile with their business information (such as opening hours, contact details, location) and engage with customers online. Businesses on the e-Commerce plan will also be able to sell their products to app users. The information collected will be used to create a basic business profile on Buy Brent if your business is eligible for the app.

How we use and store your information
The categories of personal data that will be processed include contact details and business information.
Once your information has been collected by the council, it may be used by other council departments, where necessary, to provide a complete service to you. It is for this reason that we do link your information together, for example, to save you providing your information more than once.
Your information may be used by Brent Council to run checks on your business to ensure that you have no outstanding issues with Brent Council with business rates, planning enforcement, trading standards and licensing.
If your business has no outstanding issues, your information will be shared with Bulbtown who will use this to create your business profile and contact you regarding further information and updates on Buy Brent. If your business has any outstanding issues, your information will not be shared with Bulbtown and will be deleted.
Brent Council does not process your information with third countries outside of the UK or EU zone without the safeguards being in place that are equivalent to the Data Protection Act 2018 or the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR).
Your information shall be processed for as long as required to create a business profile. If your business is not selected to have a business profile, your information will be deleted. If your business is selected to have a business profile, your information shall be processed until you delete your business profile.
Your rights
You have a right to withdraw your consent at any time by emailing business@brent.gov.uk.
If you fail to provide the personal data or the information you provide is incorrect, your business will not be eligible for the Buy Brent app.
Brent Council shall process your information in adherence to your information rights under the Data Protection Act 2018 and the GDPR.
Brent Council is required by law to protect the public funds it administers. We may use any of the information you provide to us for the prevention and detection of crime. We may also share this information with other bodies that are responsible for auditing or administering public funds including the:

- Financial Reporting Council
- Cabinet Office
- Department for Work and Pensions
- HM Revenue and Customs
- Police
- Other local authorities
In addition to undertaking our own data matching to identify errors and potential frauds we are required to take part in national data matching exercises undertaken by the National Fraud Initiative. The use of data by the National Fraud Initiative in a data matching exercise is carried out under the Local Audit and Accountability Act, 2014. It does not require the consent of the individuals concerned.
If you are dissatisfied with the processing of your information, you can raise your concern with the council’s data protection officer. You have a right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office (www.ico.org.uk).
