Windrush Day Event

22 June 2021

Windrush Day celebrates the contribution of the Windrush Generation. The Empire Windrush ship arrived in the UK on 22 June 1948. This marked the moment when Commonwealth citizens from the Caribbean, upon the request of the British Government, arrived at a small port in Tilbury to help rebuild a broken Britain after World War II.

The outputs from this event helped to build the Brent Black Community Action Plan, developed by and for Brent’s Black community. The event is part of a series of activities to keep the council accountable for delivering the actions of the plan, which are aimed at addressing racial inequality.
