Meanwhile Pilot Scheme

A Meanwhile Pilot Scheme to reactivate vacant high street properties in Brent and make them available to local businesses or groups looking for workspace and new uses.

Shopfront, Queens Parade, Willesden Green

Brent’s Town Centres are the lifeblood of our local economy and also serve as hubs for our diverse communities. Our Town Centres, however, face many challenges, including:

  • out of town shopping
  • the rise of online retail
  • coronavirus pandemic

Vacancies are on the rise and new uses will be key to ensuring our Town Centres are fit for purpose and continue to fulfil their invaluable role now and into the future.

In collaboration with Meanwhile Space CIC, we have launched a new scheme to tackle some of these challenges.

Landlords of vacant properties in the borough are invited to contact us about refurbishment and reactivation of their vacant premises, by offering the selected units for new workspace uses to local businesses and community groups rent free for a minimum 12 month period.

Church End, Neasden and Willesden Green are priority town centres with high levels of vacancy and the target areas for the pilot scheme.
