Design Code Workshops

A Design Code is a document that sets out rules for the quality of design for a new development. It is one of the best ways of achieving consistent quality design in large developments, as it provides assurance that whatever is built - homes, community spaces and more - will be to the level of quality set in the Design Code.

Your Design Code for Future St Raph's will be based on your ideas and feedback, together with the latest national and local standards for good design. Together with the Resident Charter, the Design Code will make sure that your priorities are at the heart of the Future St Raph’s.

Working with St Raphael’s Voice

In June and July 2020 your design team held three workshops and a feedback session online with your resident board, St Raphael’s Voice. The workshops covered three areas: public realm, homes and community. The presentations were recorded. You can watch them here

Working with you

The starting point for the workshops was the views collected from the hundreds of conversations and feedback forms from residents who have attended the previous workshops.

During July 2020 every household on the estate was sent a questionnaire, so that everyone could have their say in the development of the Design Code. The questionnaire was also available in Arabic, Farsi, Gujarati, Polish, Somali and Urdu.

Next steps

Following the co-design workshops on the Design Code with St Raph’s Voice and the public consultation with the wider community, the design team is analysing the responses and will incorporate the feedback into the design code document.

The Design Code will be presented, alongside the two masterplan options for infill and redevelopment, at an online public exhibition in August/September. The two masterplan options are based on the ideas developed by residents in the vision, infill and redevelopment workshops over the past year. The designs also take into account comments from the community at the public events and study trips, and residents’ feedback on the topics of the design code.
