Brexit

Businesses

The government has published a useful step by step guide to identify what your business needs to do to prepare for Brexit.

After the UK leaves the EU importing and exporting will change. All importers are required to have an Economic Operator Registration and Identifier (EORI) number that starts with GB. You can apply for an EORI number here. (It takes 5-10 minutes to apply for an EORI number and you will get it either straight away, or if HMRC need to make more checks within 5 working days.)

There is advice available for businesses about bringing merchandise from or to the UK in baggage or a small motor vehicle in a no-deal Brexit. This advice provides a checklist of things you’ll need to do for importing (including applying for an EORI number), making an import declaration and after you’ve made a declaration.

There is then the equivalent for exporting.

There is a good list of links here for all businesses which includes importing and exporting after Brexit.

The London Growth Hub has also put together some useful Brexit guidance, available here.
