Grants are available to voluntary organisations that provide the majority of their services to the residents of Brent. Organisations need to be properly constituted as a management committee or as a registered charity.

About the fund

This grant provides funding for the voluntary and community sector in Brent for projects aligned to the Brent Borough Plan 2015/19 priorities:   

  • Better Lives
  • Better Place
  • Better Locally

More detailed information on key priority areas for the grants within the borough plan priorities are included in the grant application pack.

The grant is a two year grant to cover the period from July 2016 to June 2018. The maximum grant payable is £25,000 per year (£50,000 for the two years).

There will be no grant round in 2017.

Edward Harvist Trust Fund

About the fund

This grant is awarded for one-off costs such as the purchase of furniture, equipment, outings, summer play scheme and costs relating to one-off events.

We are one of the five boroughs (Barnet, Brent, Camden, City of Westminster and Harrow) that run this fund on behalf of the Edward Harvist Trust Fund with London Borough of Harrow as the managing agents.

All recipients are required to contribute 30 per cent of the total cost of the project or event.

The maximum grant payable is £5,000.

Brent Community Champions Awards are held annually by Brent Council to honour and recognise individuals who have given outstanding community and voluntary service in Brent.

Voluntary Sector Liaison Forum

Brent Voluntary Sector Liaison Forum allows dialogue between our voluntary organisations in Brent.

CVS Brent runs the quarterly Voluntary Sector Liaison Forum. The forum gives voluntary sector organisations a chance to:

  • make presentations about projects being run in the borough
  • make connections with other voluntary sector organisations
  • learn more about our plans
  • raise issues for discussion
  • decide on policies in the voluntary sector
  • become involved with regeneration in Brent.

Representation

CVS Brent

CVS (Council for Voluntary Services) Brent is the independent umbrella organisation for Brent's voluntary, community and not-for-profit sector. It is a key partner in our ambitions to engage organisations from this sector.

CVS Brent's role includes:

  • consulting the local sector and residents with the aim of empowering them so they may influence decision-making
  • bespoke fundraising training, advice, information and guidance
  • developing partnerships with local and regional statutory bodies and the private sector
  • attracting money into the borough by helping organisations in the bidding process
  • supporting the development of medium term financial strategies for organisations to ensure survival
