Staying independent
Equipment to help you live independently

We want everyone to live healthy, active and independent lives for as long as possible and to have control of their lives.

If you are older, have a long-term illness or have a disability, you may benefit from specialised equipment that can help you to live safely and independently in your home.

What equipment is available

There is equipment available to help you with many daily activities, such as:

  • moving around the house
  • going to the toilet
  • washing and bathing
  • sitting down and getting up from a chair

Examples of equipment available include:

  • bathing aids
  • stair hand rails
  • walking frames
  • chair raisers
  • trollys

How to get equipment

You can buy your own equipment directly from local pharmacies and suppliers. This can be easier and quicker than asking for it from us.

If you aren't in a position to buy equipment yourself, you may be eligible for help. You will need to complete an assessment to understand your situation. If you do qualify for specialised equipment, our Occupational Therapy service will discuss the best options to support your living needs. We provide any equipment recommended free of charge.
