Bring proof of ID to your birth registration appointment
From 9 November 2026, you must bring proof of ID to your registration appointment. We cannot complete your registration if you do not bring it with you.
You must register your baby’s birth within 42 days of the child's date of birth.
The birth must be registered in the London borough where the baby was born. If your baby was born in Brent, please make an appointment with the Brent Register Office at the Civic Centre in Wembley.
If you are married or in a civil partnership with the other parent, only one of you needs to attend the appointment.
If you want fathers details to be included, both parents need to attend the birth registration appointment together.

If you are not sure if your documents are accepted contact the Brent Register Office before your appointment.
If English is not your first language and you need assistance, you can ask a friend or relative to come with you as an interpreter.
If your baby was born outside the borough and you live in Brent, you can still book an appointment with us. We will send the details to the relevant office in the borough where the birth took place and they will issue birth certificate(s) by post to your home address.
If your baby was born abroad, you must register the child in the country where the birth took place.
