Audiology is provided for children and young people aged 0-18 who are deaf or have hearing difficulties, and patients aged up to 25 years old with complex needs. The child or young person must either be registered with a Brent GP or live in the borough.
The service aims to identify, assess and provide appropriate intervention and offers:
- A specialist audiologist who is trained to work with children, and a paediatric consultant audio-vestibular physician.
- Specialist assessment of children with complex needs, multiple disabilities or serious or complex hearing loss, who need wider clinical input from an audio-vestibular physician.
- Fitting of hearing aids, medical management and long term support to families.
The service accepts referrals from the newborn screening programme, GPs, health visitors, schools, nurses, speech and language therapists, paediatricians, ENT (ear, nose and throat) and consultants.
The service is available from Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 5pm.
