Healthy eating and staying active

Healthy living

Healthy eating

Eating well and staying active helps children grow, learn and feel well.

Healthy habits can support children’s physical health, confidence and wellbeing, both now and as they get older.

Healthy eating for children

One of the simplest ways to support your child’s wellbeing is through a balanced and nutritious diet.

Eating well can help children:

  • concentrate at school
  • maintain a healthy weight
  • develop healthy habits for life

Eating at least 5 fruits and vegetables a day and having a big variety of healthy foods, can support children’s growth and energy levels.

Small, everyday changes can also make a positive difference for families.

This includes:

  • sitting together for meals
  • reducing screen time while eating meals
  • offering healthy snacks

Free vitamins are available for all families in Brent with children under the age of 4. Find our more on our Healthy Start pages.

  • NHS Healthier Families offers simple, budget-friendly food swaps for the whole family.

Staying active

Regular physical activity is an important part of a healthy lifestyle for children and young people.

Being active can help children:

  • feel more confident
  • improve their physical health
  • build positive routines

Activity does not need to be complicated. Finding enjoyable ways to move, play and stay active together can help children build healthy habits.
