Help with school uniform costs

For children starting new schools in September 2026

Starting a new school can be an exciting time, but it can also bring extra costs. Brent Council's school uniform voucher scheme helps eligible families with the cost of school uniforms for children starting Reception or Year 7 in September 2026.

Check if you're eligible

You may be eligible for a school uniform voucher if your child:

lives in Brent
will attend a Brent state school in September 2026
is starting Reception or Year 7 in September 2026
is receiving, or becomes newly eligible for, benefits-related free school meals (FSM) (newly eligible families up to August 2026).

Getting your voucher

Children starting Reception

If your child is eligible, you can apply for a £75 school uniform voucher to help with the cost of school uniform.

You'll need to complete an online application form.

Depending on your circumstances, you may be asked to provide:

proof of address
proof of income (Universal Credit statement)
proof of legal guardianship

Apply for a free school uniform

Vouchers will be issued after your application has been approved.

Children starting Year 7

If your child is eligible, you will automatically receive a £100 school uniform voucher in September 2026.

You do not need to apply, request a voucher or contact the council.

What happens next

We will check that eligible children meet the scheme criteria before vouchers are issued by email or text message.

Vouchers will be issued through Evouchers, a secure system used by Brent Council to issue vouchers and support payments.

Reception: You will receive your voucher once your application has been approved to the contact details provided in the application.
Year 7: If your child is eligible, your voucher will be issued automatically to the contact details held by your child's school, in September 2026.

If you cannot access digital messages, a postal voucher will be sent instead.

The voucher can be used to buy school uniform from participating retailers, including:

Foot Locker
H&M
Matalan
Marks & Spencer
Morrisons
Primark
Sainsbury's
Tesco

Help and support

If your voucher has not arrived

Vouchers for eligible children will be issued before 1 October 2026. If you believe you should have received a voucher but it has not arrived, contact your child's school.

The school can help check:

the contact details held for your child
your child's school records

To help ensure your voucher reaches you, tell your child's school if your email address or mobile number changes.

Before National Offer Day, make sure your school admission details are up to date and let your child's current nursery, early years setting or primary school know about any changes to your contact details.

Please note: schools cannot issue vouchers or make decisions about eligibility.
