You must tell us if your circumstances change. Even the smallest of changes can affect the amount of Housing Benefit or Council Tax Support you get.

If you do not tell us about a change that affects your entitlement and we give you too much Housing Benefit or Council Tax Support, then you may have to pay back some, or all, of the money that you have had.

What happens next

When you report a change of circumstance, we will contact you if we need more evidence or information and explain what you'll need to provide.

We aim to assess your claim within four weeks of you reporting a change. When we have assessed your application we will send you a letter to let you know:

• how much Housing Benefit and/or Council Tax Support you will receive
• the information we used to assess your change of circumstances
• if you have been overpaid benefit
• what to do if you think the decision is wrong.
