Abbey Road household reuse and recycling centre

The Abbey Road Household Reuse and Recycling Centre is available to residents who want to recycle or dispose of bulky items and general household rubbish. It is managed by the West London Waste Authority on behalf of Brent Council.

What you can take to the Centre

You can dispose of most household waste free of charge at the recycling centre. Cars are only permitted on site for a maximum of 30 minutes so please sort your materials before your visit.
Where possible, we ask that you donate items in good condition to a charity shop. Examples include:

Clothing and paired shoes
Furniture
Electronics and appliances
Bicycles
Books

Limited Free Allowance:

Each household is entitled to a limited free allowance for DIY waste disposal. (One visit per week)

Free Allowance Options - choose one of the following options during each visit:

Equivalent of two 50L bags of DIY Waste (that can be safely carried by the depositor).
OR
1 single (unbagged) bulky waste item.

Any excess DIY waste material, oversize DIY material, or visits beyond the household's free allowance will incur charges for DIY waste.
Construction/demolition waste generated by works for which payment has been made will incur a charge.

Chargeable items

There is a charge for Construction/demolition waste generated by works for which payment has been made. Charges will also apply for excess / oversized amounts of the following non-household, non-DIY waste:

Building and demolition material including plasterboard, tiles, windows, doors, timber and wooden flooring
Bricks, rubble, stones and hardcore
Bathroom suites and fittings
Fencing, sheds and paving
Kitchen units, sinks and fittings
Soil and turf
Propane Gas Bottles

Charges for Excess Material or Additional Visits:

Any excess DIY waste material, oversize DIY material, or visits beyond the household's free allowance will incur charges. Additional charges outside of free allowance as per below:

A minimum charge of £16.00 applies for up to 100kg brought in a car
A minimum charge of £32.00 applies for up to 200kg brought in any other vehicle
If you bring bonded asbestos the charge is £272 per tonne, with a minimum charge of £54.40.
If you are unsure whether the items you have taken to the site attract a charge please ask staff before you start unloading your vehicle. These items will only be accepted between 8am and 4pm.
If you are paying to dispose of your waste, please make sure that you arrive at the site and complete payment before 3.30pm.

Trade waste

Any tradesperson or business that wishes to dispose of or recycle waste will have to pay a fee. You will find details of trade prices on the West London Waste Authority website.

Terms and Conditions

The free allowance is provided exclusively to householders generating DIY waste resulting from their own domestic property DIY works.
A "bag" is defined as "a proprietary rubble bag from standard DIY stores that can be safely lifted by one person."
For large home renovation projects, we recommend considering the hire of a skip or a similar disposal method.
If you have large items of household rubbish that you want to get rid of you can arrange for a one-off bulky waste collection.
