Beat is the UK’s eating disorder charity. Founded in 1989 as the Eating Disorders Association, it's mission is to end the pain and suffering caused by eating disorders.
Around 1.25 million people in the UK suffer from an eating disorder. They include bulimia, binge eating disorder, avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID), other specified feeding or eating disorder (OSFED) and anorexia.
Support is available through:
- A helpline (Mon–Fri, 3–6pm)
- One-to-one webchat (Mon–Fri, 3–8pm)
- Email support (Mon–Fri, 3–8pm)
These are staffed by trained support workers who are experienced in listening and talking to people with an eating disorder.
