What elections can I vote in?

The Local elections will take place on Thursday 7 May 2026 in all of Brents 22 wards.

This will see registered voters in Brent voting for who they want to represent them as their local councillor.

Who can vote in local elections?

You can vote in local elections if you're:

• a British citizen - excluding overseas electors
• a qualifying Commonwealth citizen (including Cyprus and Malta)
• from Ireland
• a qualifying European Union citizen.

Number of councillors

Brent has 22 wards and is represented by 57 ward councillors. 

The table below, shows how many councillors there are for each of the wards following the local elections in May 2022:

Elections for the Mayor of London and London Assembly were last held on Thursday 2 May 2024.

Three separate contests took place:

• The Mayor of London
• Constituency London Assembly Member: The person who will represent your local area (Brent and Harrow) on the London Assembly.
• London-wide Assembly Member: The person to represent the whole of London on the London Assembly.

UK general elections take place every 5 years. There are now four Members of Parliament (MPs) elected to represent Brent's constituencies:

• Brent East
• Brent West
• Harrow East (which extends into Harrow)
• Queens Park and Maida Vale (which extends into Westminster)

By-elections can take place at any time to fill a vacancy caused by an MP resigning, dying or becoming disqualified from office.

Who can vote in general elections?

You can vote in general elections if you are:

• a British citizen
• a qualifying Commonwealth citizen (including Cyprus and Malta)
• from Ireland.

Please note: EU citizens (who are not Citizens of the Republic of Ireland, Cyprus or Malta) are not able to vote in UK Parliament elections.
