Join us for a special celebration of Empathy Day 2025, part of a national event that inspires children, young people and families to develop their empathy superpower and put it into action. This year, Empathy Day focuses on helping individuals of all ages understand the importance of empathy, build essential empathy skills, and take steps to create positive change in the world. This event is a fantastic opportunity for children, families and adults to come together and engage in activities that promote kindness, understanding and action.
Event highlights:
BookTrust story and rhyme time fun
Enjoy an engaging session of stories and rhymes for children under 5, encouraging early literacy skills and fostering a love for books and empathy from an early age.
Storytelling and craft workshop
Join author Margaret Bateson-Hill to discover The Nightingale, a tale of friendship, forgiveness and freedom by the Danish 19 Century storyteller, Hans Christian Andersen. After the story join Margaret to make little birds to take home.
Free face painting
Express yourself and your creativity with our talented face painting artists. To participate join the library and borrow 2 books.
Raffle prizes
Enter our raffle for the chance to win exciting prizes - surprises that add even more fun to your day!
As part of Empathy Day 2025, this event encourages children, young people, and families to:
- learn more about empathy and build specific empathy skills such as perspective-taking, empathic listening, naming and sharing emotions and engaging in social action
- experience empathy through enriching encounters with books, authors, and illustrators
- be inspired to take action and drive change by putting empathy into practice.
This event is free and open to all ages.
