For the past three years, visual artist Markus Blattmann has been working on three different series of works: “Memory Paintings” from 2019, “The Now Series” from 2020, and “The Free Series” from 2021 and 2022.
Blattmann produces art in different media, such as printmaking and painting. Most of his works are oil on canvas. His “Heads” series is a multi-media work and widely shown at art fairs in Europe.
His oil paintings are vibrantly colourful, with the paint and brush strokes creating layers of textures. This method reflects Blattmann’s philosophy of colour, which should be experienced and understood not only visually, but psychologically and symbolically as well.
Blattmann’s works are not representational in a narrow sense, and create no defined images. Instead, they generate associations, revive memories and emotions, and unfold ideas.
