Anima! Artist Collective are nine artists of diverse origins and backgrounds who originally met in 2019 on a two-year fine art course. Their experience was defined by working together closely in a studio, becoming isolated and then forced to work alone when the pandemic hit.
Anima! responded to the challenge by simultaneously exploring their inner and outer world. Each artist, building on a unique background and personal processes, developed work which became part of an increasingly collective reflection.
Their exhibition, Becoming. Together. shows how this reflection kept feeding the virtual dialogue that took place among its members and opened a new series of experimental work, becoming an intrinsic part of the creative cycle of each artist. Becoming. Together. includes paintings, drawings, prints, sculpture, textiles, mixed media, and digital works.
Many of the Anima! techniques are involved with exploring, playing, sharing, repeating, and reflecting. Surprises, accidents and revelations are an integral part of the process.
Why Anima!? Anima is the Jungian archetypal feminine spirit – strong, nurturing and fierce. Anima! is an Italian expression for courage – the motivating force to be powerfully awake.
