Age Friendly Brent is about creating a borough where people of all ages can live well, stay active, and feel valued as they grow older.
As part of the Age Friendly Communities movement, supported by Age UK, we are working to ensure Brent is a welcoming place to age.
This includes:
- accessible transport
- safe streets
- welcoming public spaces
- services that support wellbeing and social connection
We follow the World Health Organization (WHO) Age-friendly Cities framework.
What we’re doing
Age Friendly Brent was originally proposed by Brent’s Pensioners Forum and is supported by the Health and Wellbeing Board.
Brent Council has funded an Age Friendly Coordinator role for two years. The role is based at Elders Voice, a local charity supporting older people in Brent.
As of June 2025, Brent is also a member of the Age Friendly Communities Network.
What older residents have told us
At the launch event in November 2025, nearly 200 older residents shared their experiences and priorities.
Key issues raised included:
- unreliable transport and limits on the 60+ Oyster card
- uneven and unsafe pavements
- not enough public toilets or places to sit on high streets
These experiences help shape the work and priorities of Age Friendly Brent.
How this work is supported
The Age Friendly Coordinator:
- listens to older residents
- connects organisations and services
- supports projects that improve everyday life
- shares opportunities to get involved
