London Climate Action Week 2025 launched in Brent with the first ever Brent Schools Climate Summit, held on Monday 23rd June.

The event brought together 200 pupils and teachers from primary and secondary schools across Brent to share ideas and explore practical ways to tackle climate change locally.

The short film, Brent Schools: United for a Sustainable Future, was premiered at the event, celebrating climate projects led by seven Brent schools.

Primary and secondary school students from schools across Brent came together at the 2025 Brent Schools Climate Summit to discuss climate actions, focussing on transport, sustainable buildings, biodiversity and waste management.

During the Summit, pupils learnt about climate issues impacting local communities in Brent and then took part in ideation workshops to present creative solutions on how to reduce carbon emissions or increase biodiversity at their schools. Keynote speakers Mete Coban MBE, Deputy Mayor for Environment and Energy, and Krupesh Hirani, London Assembly Member for Brent and Harrow, shared their insights on youth leadership and the role of young people in finding solutions to the climate emergency.

Some of the innovative projects included:

  • Setting up a clothes/uniform repair shop to reduce textile waste and involve their parents in climate action
  • Rewilding an unused area of the playground to boost biodiversity and create links with their local secondary school
  • Creating a school orchard to grow their own fruits and encourage even more teenagers to engage with green spaces

These projects reflect the passion and innovation of Brent’s young climate leaders. After the event, each school completed a grant application form to receive funding to help their project become a reality. Updates on the winning projects will be shared soon.
