Looking to recycle your Christmas tree? Our popular Christmas recycling scheme is back, popping up across the whole borough just like a Christmas elf.

The festive period is right around the corner and whilst residents get ready to celebrate, the council has organised a number of ways to dispose of your tree in the most sustainable way.

To recycle you tree you have a number of options:

  • Drop your tree off at locations across Brent from Monday, 26 December to Sunday, 8 January. Take a look at the map of all the locations in the borough.
  • Take it to the Abbey Road Reuse and Recycling Centre, but keep in mind that this will be closed on Sunday 25 December, Monday 26 December and also on Sunday 1 January.
  • Garden waste subscribers: cut your tree into small pieces and place these in your green bin
  • Arrange for it to be taken as part of bulky waste service. If you have a few items that you want collected, why not include your Christmas tree as well. The service costs £35 for up to five items to be collected.

Councillor Krupa Sheth, Brent’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Infrastructure and Climate Action said: “I am proud that we continue to make it as easy as possible to sustainably get rid of your Christmas tree – which is then decomposed and used as mulch in our award winning parks.

“

Most importantly I want to wish residents a very happy festive period.

Once the trees have been collected, they are then chipped and are taken to a depot where they are left over time to decompose. This compost is then used as mulch and weed suppressant for gardens and public areas.

Bins, rubbish and recycling

During the week commencing 26 December 2022 all general waste, recycling and food waste collections will take place 1 calendar day after your normal collection day between Tuesday 27 to Saturday 30 December. The garden waste service will be closed during this period.
