Kinship Care Week is taking place between 3 and 7 October. Brent is joining this celebration to acknowledge the contribution of local kinship carers to the lives of local children and the community.

This year, the theme for Kinship Care Week is ‘Kinship Memory of the Year’. Kinship carers are encouraged to share their best memory from the last year. Kinship carers can post updates on their social channels using #BestKinshipMemory.

Kinship households in Brent are invited to attend a local family fun day. Taking place on Saturday 8 October, this event is aimed at creating a sense of community within the local kinship group and to signpost carers and their children to relevant support services and resources.

Cllr Gwen Grahl, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Schools said:

“It has been a very important year for kinship care, which is gaining more attention and more investment to better support kinship families. However there is still much to be done, so that’s why we’re raising awareness of the important role that kinship carers do and some of the challenges that we still need to address.”

“

Kinship carers make huge sacrifices to keep children within loving, secure, and stable families and the week is an opportunity to recognise and celebrate their involvement in children’s lives and in our society.

”
Kingship's CEO,
Dr Lucy Peake
