The Don’t Mess with Brent campaign has been highlighted as part of the government’s Plan for Change, with new powers announced that will give councils additional powers to clamp down on fly-tipping offenders.
Don’t Mess with Brent is a zero-tolerance approach to fly-tipping with more enforcement officers and higher fines levied against criminals. This is only the start of the campaign, but figures show that our efforts are beginning to yield results.
Compared to the previous year Brent Council has issued 30% more fines to offenders that use our streets as that litter and see our streets as their bin. We have also seen a decrease in the number of fly-tips reported in the borough over the same period.
Two Secretaries of State met with the Leader of the Council, as contractors crushed a vehicle that had been dumped on our streets. This was to highlight new powers that make it easier for us to crush vehicles responsible for fly-tipping.
