Wembley High Road to reopen

Going the extra mile in Wembley

09 April 2025

Brent Communications

Wembley High Road will open a month ahead of schedule, on Friday 18 April.

The reopening comes one month ahead of schedule, thanks to the hard work of Brent's contractor, G W Highways LTD.

These once-in-a-generation engineering works involved big structural improvements to every layer of the road, including the leaky drainage system which has been routinely causing potholes and other damage on the surface. A whopping 4,500 tonnes of material has been recycled.

Along the way, the hardworking contractors also uncovered some of Wembley’s long-dormant history, including a tram line which ran the length of the road.

The road will be open throughout the day from the 14 April without the final surface layer. That finishing touch will be laid over four nights (8pm-5am), with the road fully complete and open from 18 April.

“

I am incredibly grateful to Wembley residents and businesses for their patience as we undertook this once-in-a-generation upgrade and investment into Wembley High Road.

”

Councillor Krupa Sheth, Cabinet Member for Public Realm and Enforcement, said: “I am incredibly grateful to Wembley residents and businesses for their patience as we undertook this once-in-a-generation upgrade and investment into Wembley High Road.

I am delighted that we can open Wembley High Road an entire month early, which is a testament to the hard graft of our contractor, G W Highways. I know road works are disruptive for everyone, but with this upgrade now complete, this route will be protected for years to come and help keep Brent on the move.”
