A by-election will be held in Alperton ward for the London Borough of Brent on Tuesday 18 February 2025. This follows the resignation of former Councillor Anton Georgiou.
Wembley High Road
Major roadworks are taking place on all sides of the Wembley Triangle, to allow for essential repairs. They are expected to finish around mid-May 2025. Only buses and emergency vehicles can use the running lane between Oakington Manor Drive and St Joseph’s Church. Find more information.
Traffic signs and CCTV enforcement are in place. Vehicles will be fined each time they enter the restricted area.

This is your opportunity to elect a Councillor to represent you and the ward on Brent Council.”
Voters in Alperton have a range of options for casting their ballot – in person, by post or by appointing someone they trust to vote in their place, known as a proxy vote.
Register to vote
In order to vote in this election, residents must be on the electoral register, over the age of 18 on polling day, and live in Alperton ward.
The deadline to register to vote in time for this by-election is midnight on 31 January. This is particularly important for anyone who has recently turned 18 or moved address.
It takes just five minutes to register online.
Following the UK’s departure from the European Union, voting rights for EU citizens have changed. To be registered to vote, EU citizens living in England must meet new eligibility criteria, based on the country they are from and when they started living in the UK. The easiest way to check is to answer a few questions on the Government’s website. Brent Council has written to all EU citizens in the borough with this information.
Residents are entitled to vote in local elections if they are:
• A British citizen - excluding overseas electors;
• A qualifying Commonwealth citizen (including Cyprus and Malta);
• From Ireland;
• A citizen of Denmark, Luxembourg, Poland, Portugal, or Spain who has permission to enter or stay in the UK, Channel Islands or Isle of Man – or who does not need permission.
• A citizen of any other EU country who on or before 31 December 2020 had permission to enter or stay in the UK, Channel Islands or Isle of Man (i.e. legal immigration status), or who did not need permission, and this has continued without a break.
Apply early for a postal vote
Those registered to vote in the ward are encouraged to apply early if they want to vote by post. Applications can now be made online. All applications to vote by post must be received by the council by 5pm on 3 February.
