This Holocaust Memorial Day, join Brent’s commemorative event on Thursday 23 January to remember the millions of people murdered in the Holocaust and other genocides that have taken place, such as in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cambodia, Rwanda and Darfur.
With the theme, ‘for a better future’, the evening will be filled with inspiring stories of those who survived the horrors of the Holocaust and other genocides. It will be an opportunity to come together to reflect and learn from lessons of the past and shape a peaceful future.
The event will include a testimony from Dr Agnes Kaposi, a Hungarian-born British engineer, educator, author and Holocaust survivor.
In event tradition, the London Cantorial Singers and JFS will perform, followed by memorial candle lighting by young people across the borough.
Water main repairs on High Road, Willesden
Thames Water is carrying out essential repairs to an old water main on High Road, Willesden. To keep traffic flowing, temporary traffic lights and parking suspensions are in place. Unfortunately, some motorists are ignoring these restrictions, causing significant congestion. Please do not park in the suspended bays.
The works are expected to last until the first week in October. If possible, please avoid the area during this period. Thames Water apologises for any inconvenience.
Remembering those impacted by genocide
On Holocaust Memorial Day we come together to remember the lives lost to targeted persecution.
As a borough that prides itself on diversity, Cabinet Member for Public Safety & Partnerships, Councillor Harbi Farah shares why marking Holocaust Memorial Day is so important:
“On Holocaust Memorial Day we come together to remember the lives lost to targeted persecution.
“We reflect on history so that we can push forward to a society free of discrimination. Regardless of our religion or beliefs, we must come together and take a stand against hate.”
The event is open to all. It will take place on Thursday 23 January from 6pm at Wembley Stadium (Wembley Suite) Olympic Way, Wembley, HA9 0WS.
