A transformational £14.5million investment aimed at revitalising the borough’s roads, parks, and public safety infrastructure has been agreed by the council’s Cabinet today (28 July). This will deliver improvements that residents will see, feel, and benefit from every day.

The funding, secured through the Strategic Community Infrastructure Levy (SCIL), which ismoney raised from developers building in the borough, will support Brent’s growth while improving the day-to-day lives of residents by upgrading essential local infrastructure.

“

This investment is about more than just resurfacing roads or replacing cameras, it’s about putting pride back into Brent’s streets.

Councillor Krupa Sheth, Cabinet Member for Environment and Enforcement, summed up the ambition behind the investment:

“This investment is about more than just resurfacing roads or replacing cameras, it’s about putting pride back into Brent’s streets. We're determined to create a cleaner, safer, greener borough where every resident feels safe, connected, and proud of where they live.”

Smoother roads and safer pavements

Following on from the £15 million injection Brent has spent on roads and pavements since 2022, this council is now adding an additional £10.7 million into highway maintenance.

The money will target everything from pothole-ridden carriageways to uneven footways. The funding will also support upgrades to street lighting and the removal of tree stumps, ensuring Brent’s streets are safer and more accessible for all.

This investment builds on previous works already underway across the borough, including resurfacing projects on Harrow Road and Oakington Avenue. The council’s data-led approach ensures that the worst-affected areas are prioritised for repair, with safety and accessibility at the heart of the programme.

Enhancing our award winning green spaces

Following the news that three Brent parks have received Green Flag awards for the first time in over a decade, the council is now investing £730,000 to further improve open spaces. This funding will go towards upgrading footpaths and replacing play equipment, ensuring that local green spaces remain vibrant, inclusive, and family-friendly.

Recent patrol schedules and enforcement activity in parks like Gladstone Park, Roundwood, and King Edward VII Park show the council’s commitment to keeping these spaces clean and safe. Enforcement teams and Neighbourhood Patrol Officers (NHPs) have been actively monitoring hotspots, with plans to use CCTV footage to identify and deter those who damage or litter in public spaces

Smarter CCTV to keep you safe

The council’s Don't Mess with Brent campaign has had huge success, leading to 5,714 enforcement actions compared to 2,650 in the previous year and a £100k increase in enforcement fines.

The council is now investing £3.1million to expand and modernise Brent’s CCTV network, replacing 130 outdated analogue cameras with high-quality digital models to improve coverage and image quality.

This expansion will strengthen the council’s ability to tackle crime, fly-tipping, and anti-social behaviour, while keeping residents and local businesses safe.

A Cleaner, safer, greener Brent

With works set to begin this summer and continue into 2026, this £14.5million programme is one of the biggest public realm investments Brent has made in recent years.

The funding will deliver real improvements on the ground, supporting the council’s goals around growth, active travel, public safety and tackling the climate emergency.
