Covid-19 Day of Reflection 2025

This Sunday (9 March 2025) Brent Council will join the National Day of Reflection for the Covid-19 pandemic.

In September 2023 following a consultation held with those most impacted by the pandemic, including representatives from bereaved family organisations, the UK Commission on Covid Commemoration recommended an annual UK-wide day of reflection.

2025 marks five years since the pandemic began. The day will be an opportunity for the public to commemorate those who lost their lives during the pandemic, as well as honour the health and social care staff, frontline workers, researchers and all those who supported the community and extended compassion to others during this unprecedented time.

On Friday (7 March) Mayor of Brent, Councillor Tariq Dar and Leader of Brent Council, Councillor Muhammed Butt went to Roundwood Park to unveil a plaque, and a tree planted in memorial.

Mayor of Brent, Councillor Tariq Dar said: "The pandemic was a difficult period for everyone, for those who fell ill and had to be hospitalised, for family members and friends left behind, for those still suffering today.”

“The tree stands as a symbol of our collective strength, remembrance, and hope for the future. We invite all members of the community to visit the memorial tree, to reflect, remember and find solace in its presence.”

Leader of Brent Council, Councillor Muhammed Butt said: “I’m truly grateful that we’ve taken this opportunity to commemorate the lives lost to Covid-19.”

“As a community it is important that we continue to recognise their lives, their happiness and their memories as well as show our gratitude to all the people who played a part in helping our community thrive. Let’s make sure that we celebrate this day going forward.”

The tree is located opposite the aviary in Roundwood Park. The closest entrance to the park is Harlesden Road.
