Get your care needs sorted sooner at Same-Day Assessment event

Brent Communications

If you live in Brent and you are struggling with everyday tasks, Brent Council is holding a special event where you can find out what care support you might be able to get – and you could get answers on the same day.

Instead of waiting for a care assessment, residents have been invited to come along to Brent’s Community Assessment Day this Thursday 22 May to chat with social workers from across Brent Council and find out what support they’re eligible for.

Most appointments for assessments have already been booked up, however there are a small number still available – to request a slot, please email contact.communityassessmentday@brent.gov.uk.

Whether you have an appointment or not, there will be free health and wellbeing checks from the Brent Health Matters team which are open to all. And, if you're worried about money, advisors from Citizens Advice will also be there to support. Both are available on a walk-in basis.

The council trialled these kinds of events last year, and it worked well – over 200 people got their care and health needs looked at on the same day! Now, they're doing it again to help even more people and cut down waiting times.

“

Councils across the country are grappling with high demand for social care services, and in Brent we want to get people off the waiting list for care assessments and sorted with the support they need sooner.

Councillor Neil Nerva, Cabinet Member for Community Health and Wellbeing, said: "Councils across the country are grappling with high demand for social care services, and in Brent we want to get people off the waiting list for care assessments and sorted with the support they need sooner.

“People’s needs can be complicated and sometimes that means multiple teams are involved in putting in place support for them. But the last thing you need when you're struggling with everyday tasks is to navigate different services.

“That's why we're doing these same-day assessments in Brent, with the services people tend to need the most all under one roof.”

To make things faster, the social workers will be using clever computer tech to help with paperwork, so they can spend more time talking to people face-to-face. If you come along, you’ll also get to try out new digital tools that could help you live independently.

Coming to this event means you could get the answers you need much quicker. It's free for everyone who lives in Brent.

When? Thursday, May 22nd, between 9.30am and 4pm

Where? The Church End and Roundwood Unity Centre, 103 Church Road, NW10 9EG.
