Brent Communications

The I AM Brent community microgrant is now open for a second round of applications, with up to £5,000 available for projects.

The grant is dedicated to helping young people, their families, and associated community members in Chalkhill Estate, Church Road Estate, Harlesden Town Centre, St Raphael’s Estate, and Stonebridge Estate stay safe from violence.

Funding will be awarded to projects that deliver prevention or diversionary work at a local level to reduce violence in the community. Projects could focus on improving community relations, mental health, educational outcomes, and employment prospects.

“

This grant is about empowering our communities to create safer, stronger neighbourhoods. Together, we can give young people the opportunities they deserve and build a Brent where everyone feels supported and connected.

”

Cabinet Member for Safer Communities, Jobs and Skill

Councillor Harbi Farah, Cabinet Member for Safer Communities, Jobs and Skills, said:
"This grant is about empowering our communities to create safer, stronger neighbourhoods. Together, we can give young people the opportunities they deserve and build a Brent where everyone feels supported and connected."

As well as grant funding, I AM Brent will provide capacity-building support. Successful organisations will receive workshops and customised one-to-one consultancy to help deliver their projects.

Previously funded projects included a rap competition to raise awareness of knife crime and establish safeguarding tips, an after-school programme for 8-12-year-olds to create a safe space where they can make friends, and support for Somali children with special educational needs and disabilities.

I AM Brent is a consortium funded by the Mayor of London’s Violence Reduction Unit (VRU) to support young people and their families to stay safe from violence. Its members include Step Up Hub (lead), Connect Stars, PLIAS Resettlement, Sport at the Heart, United Borders, and Hilltop Circle.

The deadline for applications is 11.59pm on Wednesday 21 January 2026.

Grant launch and networking event will take place at Brent Civic Centre Thursday 27 November 6pm – 8.30pm. View the event page to secure your spot!
