Fowl Play! £20k+ fine for meat mayhem

A Willesden business that has consistently butchered our streets with piles of raw meat and rubbish has finally had its chickens come home to roost.

Nour Damascus, Willesden, has been hit with a £22,033 fine for eight offences of unlawful waste disposal – blocking the high street with bin bags, plastic crates, raw meat and other filth.

Enforcement officers have been monitoring the business since the start of last year and even contacted the owners so that they could organise proper waste removal – but the company repeatedly ignored warnings.

Councillor Krupa Sheth, Cabinet Member for Public Realm and Enforcement, said: “This is a clear message - if you dump waste on our streets, you will pay the price. We have zero tolerance for fly-tipping and filthy behaviour like this. Through our Don’t Mess with Brent campaign, we’ve already handed out 30% more fines than last year, and we’re not slowing down.

“This was serious fowl play from a business that thought it could get away with it. It couldn’t. The judgement should serve as a warning to every business: dispose of your waste properly, or we’ll clean up in court.”

Since the launch of Don’t Mess with Brent in May 2024, council enforcement action has risen sharply, with 30% more fines issued than the previous year.

Earlier this year, another local business was fined over £50,000 for dumping fish, raw meat and general waste on public land.

Businesses have a legal duty to dispose of their waste responsibly. More information on how to do this properly is available on our website.

Residents can also play their part. If you see a business dumping waste or not following the rules, and it’s safe to do so, please tip us off by emailing dontmesswithbrent@brent.gov.uk or reporting it online.
