This Remembrance Sunday, everyone is invited to pay their respects to those who have fought and lost their lives in the two World Wars and other conflicts.

Residents and community leaders will honour the lives of the fallen at the Borough’s Civic Remembrance Service in the Memorial Site within Queen Elizabeth Gardens, Barham Park on Sunday 9 November.

The service will begin at 1.50pm with a parade headed by the Regent Brass Band and community groups such as the Air Force, Sea Cadets Army, Navy, and other uniformed units. Coming to a stop at the memorial site, the parade will end with a general salute before the service begins.

Dean of Brent, Reverend Sophie Schuil-Brewer, will lead the worship and tributes during the service. Winners of the annual Deputy Lieutenant’s Prize Essay Competition will also read their pieces.

Throughout the service, wreaths will be laid by groups and leaders across Brent to pay their respects. This will include the Mayor of Brent, the Leader of the Council, local MPs, The British Legion and many other organisations representing Brent’s diverse communities.

“

On Remembrance Sunday, we unite as a community to honour those who gave so much to safeguard our freedoms and shape the lives we enjoy today.

Mayor of Brent Council

Mayor of Brent, Councillor Ryan Hack, said, “On Remembrance Sunday, we unite as a community to honour those who gave so much to safeguard our freedoms and shape the lives we enjoy today.”

“By wearing poppies as a sign of hope, laying wreaths, and joining memorial events across Brent and beyond, we pay tribute to the courage and sacrifice of all who served in the World Wars and in conflicts around the world.”

You can buy a poppy from the Royal British Legion website or look out for poppy stalls at your local supermarkets or train stations. The money raised goes towards providing ongoing support to the Armed Forces community, supporting them in the face of hardships, injuries, and bereavements.
