The Brent Health Matters (BHM) Community Grants Fund is offering grants of up to £10,000 per organisation for Brent-based community projects that can draw on the knowledge, skills and ability of local people to make a difference in their community.

Community and voluntary organisations in Brent can apply for funding to run a project to improve health and wellbeing in their neighbourhood. Support sessions on 6 and 13 October will be held on Zoom to help local organisations understand the application process.

“

From promoting awareness, encouraging prevention and supporting mental health, to increasing vaccination rates and providing physical activities, our grant recipients have shown a real ability to target specific groups and make an impact.

”
Cllr Neil Nerva,
Cabinet Member for Public Health and Adult Social Care

The BHM programme – a joined-up approach from Brent Council, local NHS services and the community to tackle health inequalities – is inviting applications between 1 October and 31 October.

Cllr Neil Nerva, Cabinet Member for Public Health and Adult Social Care at Brent Council said, “This is the fourth year we have provided grants to local organisations and we know in the past they have made a really important contribution to addressing health inequalities in the borough.

“From promoting awareness, encouraging prevention and supporting mental health, to increasing vaccination rates and providing physical activities, our grant recipients have shown a real ability to target specific groups and make an impact.”

Applications from organisations that support children and young people and those that target and benefit disadvantaged groups will be given particular priority.
BHM is looking for projects that:

  • Help the community learn about health and encourage healthy living.
  • Raise awareness and provide resources for emotional and mental health support, especially for those who need it most.
  • Promote activities like health screenings i.e. Bowel Cancer, Breast Cancer, etc., education, and early intervention to prevent health issues.
  • Work on outreach and awareness campaigns to improve access to vaccinations for target groups.
  • Encourage children and young people with limited support to engage in sports, particularly focusing on young women from diverse backgrounds.
  • Focus on improving health and wellbeing for a specific group.
  • Clearly define how they will measure the project’s success and its effects on reducing health inequalities.

To apply to attend one of the Support Sessions, register your interest at: 6 October Support Session or 13 October Support Session.
