The Love Where You Live Grant has launched the first round of funding to community projects. £100k has been awarded to 35 Brent-based community initiatives.

Applications opened to Brent registered community and voluntary sector groups, schools and residents in May, and 143 applications worth over £800k were received.

The project ideas put forward focused on a range of themes such as building stronger, more connected communities, tackling social isolation, breaking down inequalities and expanding local engagement and supporting physical activity to reduce health inequalities.

Councillor Jake Rubin, Cabinet Member for Climate Action and Community Power, said:

“I’m thrilled to see these projects come to life thanks to the support of the Love Where You Live Grant. Brent is a borough rich in cultural diversity, and it’s vital that we continue working together to strengthen community cohesion.”

The Love Where You Live Grant in partnership with Wembley Stadium Foundation (WSF) aims to fund projects that will enhance the skills of local people and empower residents and community organizations to come together to respond to local needs and concerns to develop stronger communities.

Previously funded projects included a visual storytelling workshop where children created imaginative planets and storylines, a local basketball tournament, a SEN Fun Day tailored for children with sensory-friendly activities, and a community cook-off competition using fresh ingredients.
