Willesden Green Station has taken a big step forward in the journey to become more accessible, having been picked for a full feasibility study under Transport for London’s Step-Free Access programme.

The announcement, which was made by the Mayor of London yesterday (29 September), marks a major milestone in ongoing efforts to make transport in Brent more inclusive.

“

Brent’s greatest strength is our diversity, and that means we need  a borough and transport network that works for everyone

Councillor Krupa Sheth,
Cabinet Member for Public Realm and Enforcement

Councillor Krupa Sheth, Cabinet Member for Public Realm and Enforcement, said: “I am delighted that we are closer to making another station in Brent step-free. We have been working with TfL to encourage them to make more of Brent’s stations step-free so it is encouraging that Willesden Green has been picked for the next step in the process. This is an important moment for older residents , disabled residents, wheelchair users and parents and carers with prams and buggies who will all benefit from a fully accessible station.

“Brent’s greatest strength is our diversity, and that means we need a borough and transport network that works for everyone. That is why we will continue to ramp up our work with TfL to create more step free stations.

Willesden Green emerged as one of 17 TfL stations across the capital selected to proceed to the next stage of becoming step-free.

The feasibility study will assess the practicalities of installing lifts or ramps, modifying station layouts, and ensuring compliance with accessibility standards.
