Brent Council has agreed a new agency arrangement with Everyone Active that will see the operator continue managing Vale Farm Sports Centre from Sunday 1 March 2026.

The new agreement is the first step in Brent’s wider transition from a traditional leisure model towards an Active Wellbeing approach – focused on prevention, inclusion and tackling health inequalities across the borough.

The five-and-a-half-year agreement builds on more than a decade of partnership and brings a £1 million package of capital investment and social value commitments from Everyone Active.

Everyone Active is investing £850,000 to upgrade facilities at the centre. The main gym will be extended, refurbished and equipped with brand‑new fitness equipment. New group exercise studio space will be created, and the sauna and steam rooms will be refurbished.

All improvement works will be phased so the centre can stay open with minimal disruption.

These improvements form the first stage of a wider programme of improvement works planned for later in the year, including a refurbished women’s gym and upgrades designed to improve the overall customer experience.

The investment is focused on improving the centre so it can better serve Brent’s health priorities including social connection, strength and mobility, rehabilitation and access for residents who may be inactive or living with long-term conditions.

The agreement will also see Vale Farm operate as Brent’s first Active Wellbeing Hub, with strengthened referral and rehabilitation pathways including expanded physical activity referral, aquatic rehabilitation and long-term condition support programmes.

“

Brent is a borough that values play, movement and wellbeing, because staying active is not a luxury, it is an essential part of living well.

In addition to the operator investment, the Council will invest a further £1.4 million over the next five years in planned maintenance and building improvement works, ensuring the sustainability and quality of the centre.

Everyone Active has also committed to £200,000 of social value activity, including targeted outreach in neighbourhoods with the greatest health need, support for employment and skills development, and stronger links with local partners.

They will expand their wider community work, including activity sessions in local neighbourhoods, apprenticeships, work placements and volunteering.

The agency model strengthens delivery against Brent’s priorities on health improvement, community power and social value, with improved governance, clearer performance management and enhanced customer communication built into the contract.

John Sewell, Contract Manager at Everyone Active, said: “We are proud to continue managing Vale Farm Sports Centre as agent of Brent Council. This new agreement gives us the chance to build on everything we have achieved with the community since 2013. The investment will allow us to modernise and expand the facilities. The gym will be bigger and more modern, studio space will increase and the health and wellbeing areas will be upgraded. We are committed to working closely with the Council and local communities to ensure the centre is inclusive, welcoming and responsive to local needs. These changes will help ensure that Vale Farm provides a high-quality and welcoming centre for everyone for years to come.”

Cllr Muhammed Butt, Leader of Brent Council, said: “Vale Farm plays an important role in helping people in our community stay active, social and healthy. Brent is a borough that values play, movement and wellbeing, because staying active is not a luxury, it is an essential part of living well. Through our new Active Wellbeing approach, we are focusing on prevention, access and inclusion so that every resident, regardless of background, can live a healthier life.

"The combined £2.4m investment from the Council and Everyone Active will give people better spaces to move, learn and spend time together, and it strengthens our commitment to creating more opportunities for local people. We want every resident to have access to high‑quality facilities close to home and this investment will help us deliver exactly that.”
