AI Cameras Catch Offenders Within Hours

AI Cameras Catch Offenders Within Hours

23 January 2026

Brent Communications

The council's zero-tolerance stance on fly-tipping continues. Brand new, state of the art AI CCTV cameras are now watching key hotspot areas across Brent, including estates that are managed by the council.

These cutting-edge cameras activate the moment they detect suspicious movement and feed them directly to our enforcement team, who have tripled in size since 2024. The enforcement team has several new recruits in these CCTV cameras and they’re already proving their worth.

In just 24 hours, one camera caught three blatant waste offences; a dumped fish tank, cardboard thrown onto the pavement, and a man who chucked rubbish across a public footway instead of using a bin that he was walking towards.

This comes as Brent issues over 5,700 fines for waste offences this year — more than double last year’s total, reflecting the council’s strengthened enforcement under the Don’t Mess with Brent campaign.

“

Be warned: Don’t Mess with Brent

Councillor Krupa Sheth,
Cabinet Member for Public Realm and Enforcement

Councillor Krupa Sheth, Cabinet Member for Public Realm and Enforcement, said: “We continue our focus on catching those that trash our borough. These new AI cameras are a major help for our bolstered enforcement teams and will help them crack down on those responsible. Brent is a beautiful borough, and we will not hesitate to issue fines to protect it. Be warned: Don’t Mess with Brent.”

Residents that come across a fly-tip should report it to the council so that it can be inspected and cleared.
