Kilburn Library on Salusbury Road will reopen on 2 February following a £1 million transformation, creating a modern, inclusive and vibrant community hub for residents in the south of the borough.

The transformation, funded by £783,000 from the council’s Strategic Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) and £231,500 from Arts Council England, has reimagined the historic library for Brent’s diverse communities, blending contemporary design with the character of its 130-year-old Victorian architecture.

Visitors will enjoy a host of new and upgraded facilities, including a spacious single-floor layout with versatile areas for exhibitions, workshops, performances, and community programmes. The library also boasts a fully refurbished, hireable community space, studio42, equipped with a screen and Wi-Fi; perfect for meetings, courses, groups and events.

“

This refurbishment is a testament to our commitment to providing inclusive and accessible services that bring people together.

Cllr Promise Knight, Cabinet Member for Customer Experience, Resident Support and Culture, said: “We are thrilled to welcome everyone back to the new Kilburn Library on Salusbury Road. This refurbishment is a testament to our commitment to providing inclusive and accessible services that bring people together. The enhanced facilities will support learning, creativity and connection across our vibrant community. We can’t wait to see Kilburn Library become a hub for inspiration, collaboration and culture for years to come.”

The refurbished library features refreshed interior design, new soft furnishings, additional study spaces and a dedicated digital zone, providing an ideal setting for studying, working, and learning. Friendly and knowledgeable staff are available to assist with basic IT queries.

Visitors with children can look forward to a bright, modern children’s area designed to spark curiosity and support early learning. The space will feature interactive, tactile sensory elements, creating an inclusive environment for all young visitors. In addition, our popular BookTrust story and rhyme sessions for under-fives will now include a monthly Saturday session, making it easier for more families to join in.

In addition to these upgrades, the stock collection has been expanded and refreshed and with 2026 designated the National Year of Reading, Kilburn Library (Salusbury Road) will be at the heart of Brent’s celebrations this coming year.
