More than £1 million has reached over 2,200 Brent households through our Resident Support Fund this year, helping residents meet essential costs such as food, energy bills, and emergency expenses.
Eligible residents can receive grants of up to £500, providing practical help when it is needed most as financial pressures continue.
We have also introduced a new scheme to support residents living with a terminal illness. By offering council tax support following a terminal diagnosis, we aim to ease some of the financial pressure on individuals and families at an exceptionally difficult time.
Yet around £6 million in benefits goes unclaimed in Brent each year. Residents should check what support may be available, including Pension Credit and Housing Benefit, and seek help before financial difficulties reach crisis point.
We are also listening carefully and using residents’ feedback to target support and shape delivery. Our latest Resident Attitudes Survey found that three in four residents are proud to call Brent home and 85% believe Brent is a place where people from different backgrounds get on well together, residents also identified cleaner and safer streets, good housing, access to health services and cost-of-living support as top priorities.
Thank you to everyone who took part. Your feedback is shaping our new Council Plan for the next four years and informing how we prioritise discretionary spending alongside essential statutory services, including adult and children’s social care.
The message is clear, residents want safe and welcoming neighbourhoods, more opportunities to thrive and confidence that support will be there when needed.
We are listening and will continue to deliver against those priorities.
