Extra cleaning teams on the way to put pride back in streets and estates

Faster fly-tip removals and an extra team to tackle waste on housing estates are on the way after a £1.2 million investment from Brent Council.

The funding will provide additional resources for cleaning services across the borough, including five more litter pickers for town centres and high streets, additional mechanical sweepers, night-time rubbish clearances and bin collections, and a new rapid response cleansing team.

A new 12-month trial will also provide a dedicated team and vehicle to tackle fly-tips and excess waste on 15 housing estates across the borough, helping keep communal areas cleaner and better maintained.

The additional resources will help teams respond more quickly to fly-tipping and other environmental issues, reducing the time waste is left on streets, estates and public spaces.

Cllr Promise Knight, Cabinet Member for Cleaner Streets, Transport and Public Realm, said: "We know residents take great pride in where they live and want to see clean streets, well-maintained estates and public spaces they can enjoy.

"That's why we're investing in additional teams, vehicles and resources to strengthen cleansing services across the borough and provide extra support where it is needed most.

“Keeping our borough clean starts with all of us and we encourage residents to report fly-tips so we can take swift action and to make use of the council's waste and recycling services when disposing of unwanted items.

“Together, we can help keep Brent's neighbourhoods clean and welcoming for everyone.”

The investment forms part of Brent's wider commitment to creating cleaner, greener neighbourhoods. It builds on the council's Don't Mess with Brent campaign, which encourages residents to report environmental issues and dispose of waste responsibly while taking firm action against those who litter and fly-tip.
