Did you know that libraries are free to register and use? Plus you don't need to provide a proof of address to join.
There are two ways to register
We only require proof of address if you wish to use our free internet service. The types of proof that we accept include current versions of the following:
- a bank statement
- utility bill
- driving licence
- benefit book
- tenancy agreement.
If you are under 16, you will need your parent or guardian to sign a membership form for you.
Your library card
Once you have joined online you will need to visit a library to complete your registration and pick up a library card.
If you lose your library card please contact your local library by phone, email firstname.lastname@example.org or in person right away.
If reporting by phone, you will be asked to verify the information we have on record for you, such as your name, address and date of birth.
To get a new card you will need to bring acceptable name and current address identification on your next visit to the library.
There is a £2 charge to replace an adult library card and a £1 charge to replace a library card if you are over 60 or between 12 and 17 years old. There is no charge for children under 12.
You membership number is on the top line of your card above the bar code.
You will need your library card number (on your library card) and personal identification number (PIN) to book a computer and to search our online resources.
If you are not a library member or do not know your PIN then please contact your local library in person as we are unable to pass the information over the phone or by email.
